3 Ways to Motivate Your Lazy Teenager

1. Teach them Responsibility

Some teens are lazy simply because they don’t know any better. Try to incorporate responsibilities into their life so they feel more of a sense of purpose and dedication.

Not only will this teach them responsibility, but it’ll help them learn that not everything will be done for them by their parents or others. Understanding that some things do fall on them and they need to take action will help incite more responsibility and less laziness.

2. Limit Screen Time

Getting your kid off of their phones, games, iPad, and more can allow them a lot of time for other activities. Set boundaries with them. Have them understand that there is more to do than watch TikToks and sending Snapchats.

Boundaries = LOVE. Having an agreement with them about the amount they can use screens. Consider shutting off the WiFi at night. Allow them the opportunity to explore other pastimes.

3. Is everything OK?

Sometimes a child isn’t motivated because not everything is fine with them. They might be upset about school, a relationship, or much more.

Let your kid know that you’re there for them, ask them if they want help, and overall don’t make them feel guilty or bad for being lazy. Rather, show you care and offer assistance.

If you are worried about depression or anxiety, consider talking to a medical professional about next steps.

At the end of the day, you can’t do everything for your kid. But, you can assist and be there for them as best you can. A lot of teenagers are lazy, they’re teenagers! But with these 3 quick tips, they’ll be off their screens and motivated before you know it.
